The first post this new year here on bricks-n-mortar.com is based on the query received from one, Ms. R. Sahay through our twitter handle #bricksnmortar and then in detail over the email. She resides in New Delhi and has asked:
"We are renovating our home and are deliberating whether to go for ready-made furniture available online; or ready-made furniture from shops/ showrooms; or should go for conventional way, that is, get the furniture made from carpenters hired directly or through some contractor.
We intend to procure/make home products like beds, wardrobes, study table, book rack, TV wall unit, shoe rack, door frames and door shutters, window frames and window shutters, kitchen utility storages, and some similar stuff.
We would be looking for durable and long life furniture as ours is a transferable work profile.
Please advise what approach should we adopt considering that we have limited budget and are not lavish spenders.
We would also appreciate if you could ask your readers to suggest their practical viewpoints on this matter, which would surely be quite helpful to us.
Thanks"
So, we are putting this query in the public domain for our readers & subscribers to suggest their practical inputs to Ms. Sahay. Inputs are welcome in the form of comments to this post and/or through our email. We shall round-up and post the final suggestive post as well in about a week's time from now so that all get to know the crux of the feedback received.

Readymade furniture is OK, but only if you do not expect durability out of that, mind it
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to online furniture.. who's gotta time to get things made the conventional way in this age? Online ordered furniture may not be that strong and durable as compared to conventional one, but the bargain is worth
